Mildura to Burra

Well....after a 3 night unscheduled stop in Mildura because of car trouble....we finally hit the road at 3.30 this afternoon. A long, straight drive. We had time to stock up on groceries in Mildura...100kms up the road...all fresh fruit & veg was seized by quarantine...AARGH! I think the inspector could see my disappointment. His comeback ...you can keep your potatoes & onions. Mmmm....yummy side dish for dinner tonight & tomorrow night before we hit civilisation again. On the positive...what a way to see in the new year!

Freakin car

Don't you love it when a plan comes together. We phoned Toyota to make sure our alternator was definately due for delivery....all good! 30minutes later we get a phone call. They had an invoice for our spare part but one box was missing...our alternator...still in Melbourne...CRAP! Another night in Mildura. NOT A HAPPY CHAPPY 😞

Day 9 travel - Lake Benanee to Mildura

Track for day nine, cut short by faulty alternator...

Day 8 Travel - Hay to Lake Benanee

Track for day Eight

Car trouble

Nice early start. Thought we'd get a good driving day in....battery light on car. Terrible sound...we think it's the alternator...and it's Sunday! Booked into a caravan park in Mildura. Toyota opens 8am tomorrow & we'll be waiting on their doorstep πŸ˜ƒ

we did take a look at Wentworth on our way this morning. This is the point at which the Murray & the Darling rivers meet. We saw a houseboat go through lock 10. This is how they regulate the height of the river. It was so cool!

We are now in Victoria!!!
It was too quick for the border photo πŸ˜€

Day 8...Hay

Hay old railway station. Prisoners of war from WWII were brought from all over Europe & housed at Hay. The railway station has been restored & is now a museum.
We then visited "Sheer Outback". It is a sheerer's hall of fame. We watched a shearing demo.

Camp spot for tonight. Free camp on a natural lake...."lake Benanee"...just out of Euston! Should cross a border tomorrow. We're getting closer Rees & Sarah xxx

Day Seven - to Hay

Day Seven - Hay
The Hay plain, what an amazing expanse of the Australian landscape. We saw EMU's :-)

Camp site for the night, Sandy Point. Just on the Murrumbidgee River, bit cold for a swim but of course the kids went in, which means we have to go in....

Day Seven - to lunch

Lunch at Goolgowi

Day Seven Travels

Well goodbye Gum Bend Lake, with the cockies and galahs doing their usual early morning song and dance we were up packing early to be away by 7:15am.
First piddle stop just out of Condobolin reminded me i needed my phone fro the tracker, thus the missing bit at the start :-)
Lake Cargelligo, morning tea stop, amazing large natural lake formation in the outback of New South Wales, the addition of the levee banks in 1901 were to help retain the flood waters.

Day seven start

Hay plains

Charley saw her first emu. Acres & acres of nothing but beautiful bare country.

Christmas Day 2014

The kids were too excited for brekky. They chose an early swim. It was 11.30 so we thought early lunch might be on the cards. Finished by 11.45...thought the kids could settle in for a play on their new iPads...mummy & daddy a nap! The clouds rolled in & we survived our first thunderstorm. It was forecast bug has been all week.
