Relaxing day at Melrose

We decided to spend another night at Melrose Showground. We rode into the town on a lovely bike track. A lovely old country town. You wonder how these small towns survive. So lovely though!!!

A cool swing bridge we found in town.

These two girls hate sharing a double bed....so why are they snuggled together on half of the bed :-))))

A bit of sightseeing!

We left our vans at the caravan park for an early morning drive to Andamooka. It's a small opal mining town about 35kms from Roxby Downs. The opal is closer to the surface than Coober Pedy but not as good in quality (apparently). We saw some fabulous old dwellings from the miners in the early 1900s & also some old machinery.

We were going to head to the mine at Roxby Downs but realised than you can only book a tour on Wednesdays. It's a Uranium mine & I was probably happy to give it a miss.

We then passes through Woomera. Tenae's quote as we drive in...."creepy ghost town No 3". There was mitary testing carried out with the Americans in the 1950s. We were walking down the Main Street & not a car or person in sight. It was like it was abandoned. The area used as the detention centre is just abandoned. There is still a military base but it's obviously not accessible to the public.

We have stopped for the night at Melrose Showground! There is a BREEZE!!!! And it's COOL!!!

Marla to Roxby Downs

A BIG drive but we heard there was a leisure centre at Roxby downs so we went for it. 8 hours in the car but it's open till 8pm. Only downside...the crows!

Surprise

We surprised daddy at the airport with the car & caravan all packed & ready to go! Daddy was soooo upset to not have to fly in to pack up camp :-) A big thank you to poppy & nanny for this past week. The kids almost pushed me to breaking point but poppy made me a "special" coffee & took me for a walk & all was happy again.

A big afternoon of driving & we made it to  Marla for a well deserved swim.

Up & at it again to attempt Glendambo tonight. An expected top of 42 so choosing sleepover stops based on pool availability lol.

Michael can't find his sunnies. Lucky my spare pair look so good on him :-))))

Movie night

A night at the movies....gypsy style :-) it's certainly not big screen lol

Walpa gorge

A beautiful walk at Kata Tjuta. You can't believe it's all just naturally occurring. Even saw a local wallaby.

No flies on poppy!

An eagle posing for us :-)

Yulara life

It's still an amazing place but very hard to fill in time if you're not working. We've attacked school this week & are heading into week 3 work. Making the most of daddy being away. It's a lot to take on to begin but I'm sure we'll do fine. The kids seem to be getting their heads around it.

We are doing quite a few units as a family which is fabulous (Let's get Fit, aboriginal culture). Charlotte has even joined in a few activities.

Daddy is home Saturday. We are heading back to the ocean.

Cooling off with a swim.

We bought ourselves a mascot. This is Wally the Wombat.
